This was an eye-opener for me. I thought DNRs were only for patients who are brain-dead.

My doctor recently mentioned DNRs to me because she had had a patient who was brain-dead from a car accident and being kept alive on machines. He had no family in this country, and the hospital had to deal with his parents back in Russia who spoke no English, and it was very difficult to get them to agree.

Thank you for sharing your difficult experience with your mother. I'm sorry she suffered unnecessarily, and you did too.
