This phrase sounds so simple, but women struggle to say it. I wish someone had taught this phrase in school, and emphasized that I had a right to say it.
When I was a manager, other managers at the meeting would speak over top of me, and more loudly than I could, making the very point I had been making when they rolled over my remarks and interrupted, thus taking credit for the idea. Women of my generation were raised to be "nice," and just acquiesce.
I hope young women these days are better at demanding the floor. Your advice is spot-on.
