The election slogan was, "The middle class, and those working hard to join it," but I agree that most Canadians consider themselves "middle class," if they even think in terms of class at all. People I would term rich or "well-to-do," seem uncomfortable with the label. The most they will call themselves is "comfortable." People of very modest circumstances still don't like to use the word "poor." They'll say they're "getting by" (although these days, it's getting harder to "get by," what with inflation.
