My first job was in a library in the Sixties. I had to shelve books and order the cards in card catalogues. I loved to think how so much knowledge was organized in all those tidy little drawers. It made knowledge, and even life itself, feel "manageable." Now there's just this nebulous mass of data out there, and angry dis-embodied voices out there too.
