Interesting. In Canada and the U.S., we tend to consider hate crimes (crimes triggered by reaction to a person's group characteristic, e.g., colour, religion, sexual orientation, etc.) to be worse. Our laws view them as more abhorrent, because they endanger not just the victim, but society and its norms. Do you think that's preposterous or appropriate?
