I hear you, Christine. I wrote an obviously humorous (to me, at least) article for the Globe and Mail (a national Canadian newspaper) about how I supposedly lie to election pollsters. Some outraged readers wrote that I was independently "undermining democracy itself" by telling a white lie to a telephone pollster about whom I might vote for. Yikes. I had no idea I had so much power! :)
