I don't like it, either, when people get too chummy, too fast. I worked in an insurance office years ago, and the sales reps were taught to try to fit the person's name in, every other sentence. "You know, Bill, a guy like you should be thinking about critical illness insurance. What do you say, Bill?" It was cringe-worthy.
